Environment
The clean sea is Tallink’s most important resource and part of the business DNA code. By preserving nature, Tallink also preserves its field of activity, employees, partners, and other stakeholders.
Some of Tallink Grupp’s greatest investments and efforts over the last decades have been made into projects and activities aimed at reducing any of our company’s negative impacts on the environment and climate. Steps ranging from smaller purchasing process changes and technological advances to the construction of more environmentally friendly ships, have required investments exceeding half a billion euros in the last 10 years alone, but have made perfect business sense as well as sustainable development sense. Our focus for the years ahead remains on reducing our emissions, increasing our energy efficiency, working towards alternative sustainable fuel sourcing with our key partners, aligning our supply chain with our environmental goals, and so much more.
Average CO2 emissions of Tallink Grupp’s core shipping routes
One of Tallink Grupp’s environmental priorities is the reduction of its GHG emissions group-wide and in line with global emissions reductions targets. We are working with a number of partners to achieve this through innovative technologies and solutions.
Overall, Tallink Grupp has already achieved around 44% CO2 emissions reductions compared to base year 2008 and is on the path to achieve at least 50% reductions by 2030 compared to 2008.
Routes | kg-CO2 / passenger | kg-CO2 / cargo ton |
---|---|---|
Helsinki-Stockholm | 41,01 | 5,97 |
Turku-Stockholm | 26,69 | 3,11 |
Helsinki-Tallinn | 5,80 | 0,75 |
Tallinn-Stockholm | 35,75 | 4,62 |
Turku-Kapellskär | 18,50 | 2,16 |
Calculations are based on the following:
- Maximum capacity of the vessels (max passengers and max cargo)
- Fuel consumption based on actual consumption on the routes
- Average distances between the ports of the route
- Ratio Pax/Cargo is based on Finnish Shipowners Association assumption of 80/20 (pax/cargo)
Tallink fleet’s verified annual CO2 emissions data per vessel (annual averages) is available in the EU-MRV system.
